Hey good lookin’, whatcha got cookin’? Week 10

First off, Happy Easter everybody! I hope every one had a good day and enjoyed their treats from the Easter Bunny. πŸ˜‰

Today was such a beautiful day in Sheridan, Wyoming. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to go home to spend the day with my family, so I spent it with Elias instead. We did a couple fun things! We went for a drive in the mountains, and we even spent some time cooking together!

So, today was our first experience making crepes. It went okay…

In high school, every Thursday, my best friends’ mom would make us and some of our girlfriends crepes! It was so fun and soo delicious. We usually put whipped cream, strawberries, maple syrup, and they would put nutella on theirs (I wouldn’t because I’m allergic to tree nuts). So, while Elias and I were at Walmart searching for ingredients, I was SET on finding those same things to put on our crepes. We found almost everything, except for the strawberries. I wanted those strawberries badly! And Elias being the great guy he is, drove me to the 2 other grocery stores in town to find them. We were out of luck though, how on earth does the whole town of Sheridan not have a single strawberry?!? Are they a popular Easter fruit? Who knows… So we didn’t use strawberries.

We got home and started cooking! We were both pretty excited because we had never made crepes before. He started on the batter, while I whipped up the whipped cream (heavy whipping cream with sugar to taste.. so delicious!). That’s when things started to get frustrating. I accidentally broke a glass cup on our prep space, which got Elias frustrated, after cleaning that up, things were fine. We put some of the crepe batter on a hot skillet with butter on it, aaaand the first one didn’t turn out. At all. It was funny shaped and was still pretty raw in the middle. Oops! Elias is a perfectionist, so he wanted them all to turn out perfect! Which the rest of them actually did.

It was going well, but then I dropped my plate of crepes. Whipped cream and maple syrup went everywhere! Ugh, it was a mess to clean up. After we finally got it cleaned up, we got to enjoy our crepes, and they were delicious! This learning project is so much fun, I never thought I’d be attempting to make crepes. ha!

I made some really good crepes in foods class for a project one time! I LOVED THEM. They were so good, I had like this frosting stuff and strawberries, and whip cream. I will always remember that taste and now that I mention it, I should make them again.

Sounds like a mess!! But a fun mess, at least. Crepes are so tricky to get right, so I can believe that you had a rough time of it. I can’t believe there wasn’t a single strawberry to be found! Did you try frozen or jarred? Sometimes they keep them jarred in a syrup, and that’s what some restaurants like to use. At least you have a fun story to reminisce about in the future =)

I really love crepes! I agree that they are super hard to make at first though. I think things like that just take a couple to get used to making them and then you’re good!
